Controversial Directive retains unclarified concepts

Manuel Durães Rocha and César Bessa Monteiro jr, Partners at Abreu Advogados, have joined the Newspaper “Jornal Económico” on its Focus articles regarding the new Digital Single Market Directive.

On April 26th, in line with the commemoration of the Intellectual Property Day, “memes”, “gifs” and “snippets” – which are fragments of a Code – have gained a new protection. As an example, the holders of rights in music, which have been used in a video, may notify the respective platforms that they own the respective content. The Newspaper also writes on the political side of copyrights, the delays in the registration of patents and the basics of Intellectual property, and has established a Forum with several specialists in these topics, amongst which Manuel and Cesar.
