Associated Partner of Abreu Advogados co-coached the winning team at the IV Arbitration Pre-Moot Court in Madrid

The Nova University of Law team, represented by LLM students Catarina Carreiro, Catarina Cerqueira and Carolina Roque, and co-coached by André Pereira da Fonseca, an Associated Partner and member of the Arbitration Practice Area of Abreu Advogados, has won the IV Arbitration Pre-moot Court in Madrid ACMEY, which took place between 28 February and 1 March at the offices of Linklaters, Hogan Lovells, Allen & Overy and Cuatrecasas, in Madrid.

The coaching of André Pereira da Fonseca is part of the protocol signed between the Nova University of Law and the Portuguese Arbitration Association Under 40. The Nova team came first out of a group of 16 international competitors having won the prize for “Best Team” and “Best Claimant”. This was the first time a Portuguese university won an international arbitration competition.

This competition is part of the preparation for the 26th edition of the Willem C. Vis Moot that will take place in Vienna in April 2019, and consisted of several Court audiences and arbitration proceedings. Several Universities from around the World competed against each other in a fictional commercial arbitration, some of them acting for the plaintiff and some for the defendant. In addition to the preparation of the Court audience and proceedings, the coaching of the Nova team included the preparation of several legal briefs and an intensive analysis of the relevant facts and applicable laws.
