Micaela Afonso is a Partner at Abreu Advogados Madeira, working primarily litigation in its different domains, specifically in the areas of commercial, corporate, employment, and insolvency law and civil law in which she focuses primarily on contract law.

She has also participated in corporate restructuring processes as they relate to corporate, commercial, civil and employment law including insolvency and pre-insolvency situations.

Additionally, she has extensive experience on advising companies in the area of employment law on matters relating to hiring, termination of employment contract (termination proceedings due to subjective and objective causes), transfer of establishment and collective hiring.

Experience

Advising a multinational company in the security sector on proceedings related to credit collection from their private and public clients;

Advising a number of regional companies in the gas distribution, equipment and installation sector on credit collection proceedings against several private and public clients both through declarative and enforcement actions in insolvency and pre-insolvency processes;

Advising a bank on the collection of credits through declarative and enforcement actions in insolvency and pre-insolvency processes;

Advising and legally representing a group of workers in the context of their employers’ insolvency process;

Advising and legally representing a group of shareholders of a company which was declared insolvent;

Advising and legally representing employee groups in actions aimed at acknowledging the establishment and employment contracts were transferred to the acquirer of the establishment and reversal of said transfers;

Advising public sector companies on the negotiation of company agreements with unions representing the employees at their service;

Advising on several corporate restructuring processes, specifically on the acquisition of shares and quotas, operations using registered capital and corporate mergers;

Advising on matters related to labour, commercial, corporate and contract law in a number of regional national companies.
